I’ve been thinking about restarting Whole30 for a while now. After attempting (and quitting after 15 days) back in January and an ever shorter attempt #2 back at the start of April, I still wanted to do it. I wanted to go the entire 30 days and see what happens.
And so, on a whim, I restarted it today.
I realized that I have enough food in my fridge and freezer that this week would be rocky, but easy. I had plenty of veggies and even more meat. All I had to do was change what I had planned to eat to exclude all of the stuff I already know to exclude (basically: alcohol, dairy, grains, legumes and sugar… and no re-creating junk foods!).
And so, when it came time for lunch, I roasted some asparagus and topped them with poached eggs. It was kind of great!
Then, when the day was over, I did something else good for me: I finally joined the gym on my own. Before, I had been going with my friend Chris and bumming off of his membership. But now I am a bona fide member on my own! How great is that?
Of course, I also stayed and did half an hour of cardio and some strength training. It had been a few weeks since I did anything, and it felt nice to get my muscles moving.
After the gym, I ran an errand… and then decided to treat myself to a mani/pedi. It had been forever since I had one, and I love a good pedicure to destress myself. I figured I was due for one, and it was a nice little reward for making this commitment to Whole30 and to going to the gym more.
The only bad part? By the time I got home, I really wasn’t hungry anymore. It was almost 10 p.m., and I consider that too late for dinner anyway. Instead, I had some cashews that I just purchased as a snack and four small apples. Not sure why, but I topped the apples with some Aleppo pepper, just as I had with my eggs earlier.
All in all, I am feeling much more confident about things this time around. I have enough food for this week, and I also plan to go to the farmer’s market over the weekend. I mainly need to focus on making sure I have adequate produce. When it comes to meat and protein, I think I currently have enough. It’s just about the fruits and veggies!
