My Story

I lost 100 pounds & gained a love of veggies!


After a lifelong struggle with weight, I made the difficult decision to get a gastric bypass—and my life has never been the same. After losing the weight, I decided that being a terribly picky eater will just not do anymore. Instead, I committed myself to trying new foods and learning how to cook healthy while incorporating the Latin flavors I grew up with.

Since then, I’ve received a certificate in holistic health coaching from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, a digital journalism certificate from MediaBistro and, along with my degree in magazine journalism from New York University, combined that with my newfound love of cooking and all things food to become, well, the healthy foodie writer that I am proud to be today.

As a journalist, web editor and food writer, I’m continuing the pursuit of good-for-you Latin food by sharing some of my favorite recipes, dining out tips, weight loss advice and more here on I’m determined to prove that eating healthy really is possible on a Latin diet—hope you’ll stick around to enjoy some of these delicious meals!
